AI Scientist

Location: Helsinki or Tampere preferred (hybrid, Finland only)

As an AI Scientist at Brillian, you’ll turn real-world complexity into intelligent and meaningful solutions that drive business impact. 

You combine deep mathematical thinking with the ability to zoom out from numbers to narratives, and from theory to value. You know when to use existing tools, when to adapt them, and when to build your own. 

At Brillian we work on diverse projects from GenAI to machine learning based forecasting, simulating synthetic data, anomaly detection to complex optimization solutions. Our projects range from research projects to scaling and managing solutions in production; our work reaches often beyond typical use cases.  

What you’ll do 

• Frame real-world problems into solvable AI questions 

• Design and run experiments that focus not only on model accuracy, but on understanding trade-offs, robustness, and practical value in real use.  

• Apply and adapt statistical, machine learning, and optimization techniques and know when to go back to basics 

• Work hands-on with data: collecting, cleaning, augmenting and simulating 

• Collaborate with AI engineers and clients to bring ideas into production use 

• Help clients see both the potential and the limitations of AI solutions 

• Connect research-level thinking to business value, not just accuracy scores 
   

What we hope you bring 

• Strong mathematical or statistical background (e.g., mathematics, physics, engineering, etc.) 

• Experience with applied AI/ML, not just in notebooks but in real-world contexts 

• Familiarity with both traditional and modern modeling techniques (e.g., regression to transformers) 

• Ability to reason about data quality, validation, uncertainty, and causal structures 

• Comfort working in Python (or similar), and curiosity to learn what’s needed 

• Critical thinking, clear communication, and a collaborative mindset 

• Bonus: experience working in consulting, research groups, or client-facing roles
